Copyright protection • The United States copyright laws protect the integrity of FSBPT materials, including test questions and practice test questions. Beware that sharing this protected material is illegal under the law and FSBPT policies. • Risk: Severe financial penalties, stigma of engaging in unethical behavior. Copyright violations • I sent an email to three people which, unbeknownst to me, contained copyright protected PEAT items. • Note that it does not matter if the act was unintentional. Intent only matters with respect to the severity of the punishment. Consequences of violating the law • FSBPT is very strict about maintaining integrity of its copyrighted material. As a penalty I have to: 1) Pay a $10,000 penalty to FSBPT. 2) Draft a 1,000- 2,000 words essay regarding the importance of ethics. 3) Post a curative statement. 4) Complete the ProBE-PT (professional/problem- based ethics) program. • Also, FSBPT has restricted my ability to transfer examination score to another jurisdiction until 6 months after the date of completion of the above steps. Caution to other examinees • Any copyright protected material when shared with or sent to other individuals will lead to violation of copyright laws. • Be alert because it causes damages by ruining your reputation and career, financial losses, and challenges your ethics.
