Hi there guyz,
To those of us who are in such circumstances I would just like to say don't worry ! ;)there are still ways for us to get through the US. There are a few state that will allow us to sit for the NPTE once they declare us qualified for licensure .I met someone with the same burden and she got stuck here for years coz she thought she can't take the NPTE just because she couldn't pass TSE. Well check on the Maryland state boards they are accepting foreign applicants with or without a license in your country of origin (but of course your professional education must meet their minimum requirement for semester credits.you can accomplish this task through the evaluation from FCCPT or other credentialing institution preferred by each state). Then you just need to complete the form for licensure in Maryland. After that ask your school registrar to send a letter stating that your medium of instruction when you graduated was english(this way you won't need to take the TOEFL/TSE unless of course you're planning to work in a state that requires one).Once Maryland State board of Physical Therapy inform you that your education was approved(based from the evaluation forwarded to them by FCCPT.Make sure before going through credentialing you have enough units to meet their minimun requirement .Because if you don't they will ask you to enroll for a few units and undergo another evaluation. So before filing for an evaluation ask for those who did and compare your curriculum.otherwise you will have to pay twice because the first one didn't meet the minimum requirement) they will inform FSBPT that you can sit for the exam and in just a few days you'll be expecting your jurisprudence exam.Hope this will help and if you have any queries I'll do my best to answer;D

Hi rnpt! Im a newbee here and just read your post which was already months ago. I hope you are still active in this forum. Im one of those seeking opportunities in the US but unfortunately does not have a local license. You said you know someone who has applied for Maryland state boards. Have you applied for it also? Are you working there right now or still in the process? I would like to ask how you did go about it. I'm really at a loss since I graduated in 1998 and have not had a chance to practice this profession at all because I began working in a different field then. I want to pursue PT now. I hope you can enlighten me. If it's not too much to ask, please e-mail me at wintergreen_14-mail@yahoo.com. Thanks!

You might be able to sit for the NPTE and pass it but unless you are in the US under an immigrant visa, you still cannot work. One of the requirements for H1 is the TOEFL/visa screen. Also, a number of states will not give you or qualify you for a license when you apply without your license from your home country. Therefore, your options would be limited.
Thanks

If you are able to take the PT exams in the US, will you be able to get some form of visa screen? at FCCPT, a local license is needed. Is there a way to work as a PT in the US without a local license? I have been here in the US for more than 10 years and have decided to do physical therapy
