Advanced Physical Therapy Training Program
The Section of Physical Therapy of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine of the UP-Philippine General Hospital is opening its second Advanced Physical Therapy Training Program which aims to provide licensed Physical Therapists a venue for self-directed learning in a hospital-based clinical setting.
OBJECTIVES of the Program:
a. Provide the trainees with venues for further development of knowledge and skills in patient evaluation and management
b. Provide the trainees with supplementary information relevant to clinical/hospital-based practice
c. Expose the trainees to self-directed method of learning
d. Provide a venue for enhancement of professional attitude
e. Expose the trainees to the multi-disciplinary setting of the Rehabilitation Department
HIGHLIGHTS of the Program:
The trainees will undergo an eight week training rotation in the different specialty clinics of the section namely:
- Pediatric Physiotherapy
- Stroke Physiotherapy
- Out-Patient Musculoskeletal Clinic
- General Acute Physiotherapy
- Other Specialty Clinics: Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation
The trainees will observe activities conducted by other Rehab Allied Medical sections (Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology, Psychology and Nursing)
The trainees will be directly supervised; and would receive regular one-on-one feedback and discussions from attending PT staff
The trainees will attend to different lectures and discussions of each specialty clinic. Some of the lectures included in the course are as follows:
- Fundamental Gross Motor Skills Evaluation and Training for Pedia Patients
- Advanced Gross Motor Skills Evaluation and Training for Pedia Patients
- Pediatric Patient Handling and Movement Faclitation
- Basic Behavior Modification Techniques
- Use of Play in Therapy
- STREAM: An Assessment Tool for Stroke Patients
- Observational Gait Analysis
- Patient Attachments: Identification, Precautions and Considerations
- Functional Training Review
- Supportive Management Review
- Movement Analysis
- Neural Mobilization
- Myofascial Release
- Cardiac Rehab Phase I Protocol for MI Patients
- Cardiac Rehab Phase II Protocol for CABG Patients
- Cardiac Rehab Phase II Protocol
- COPD Pulmo Rehabilitation
The trainees will each receive a certificate from the director of the hospital after completing the training program
Period of Rotation: April 3 - June 2, 2006 (8 weeks)
Requirements:
a. Letter of intent addressed to the Department Chairperson, Dr. Sharon D. Ignacio, MD
b. (1) Copy of resume with recent 2x2 picture, to include affiliation centers during internship, previous PT volunteer work, clinical experience, and other work experience (both PT and non-PT related) as applicable
c. (1) Photocopy of PRC Certificate of Professional License
d. Certifications of previous PT volunteer work of at least 6 months prior to application
e. (2) 1x1 ID pictures
Affiliation fee: Php 4,000.00
