Internship Preparation Program: Pediatrics
Introduction
This seminar aims to prepare interns and pre-interns for a theoretically grounded practice of Pediatric Physical Therapy in the clinics. It focuses on the linkages between the physiologic theories of human function, changes in the body in cases of pediatric conditions, and bases of physical therapy management. Thus, this facilitates a better understanding of the clinical practice of the PT profession.
The course design was developed with major considerations of the needs of a PT intern. The course also aims to assist in the development of knowledgable interns who are capable of using sound knowledge in their reasoning processes.

The Speaker
Mr. Lyzander A. Dilag is a pediatric physical therapist who has extensive experience in different pediatric conditions. He is affiliated with the major pediatric centers in the country today. He is the Physical Therapy Clinical Training Coordinator of the Clinic for Therapy Services of UP Manila. He is also a staff Physical Therapist of TherapyWorks Inc., the premiere center that offers aquatherapy. He is very well adept in the inter-disciplinary approach of therapy, having extensively worked with occupational therapists, speech pathologists, and developmental pediatricians. He is one of the founding members of Bobath Group Philippines, and was also the Head of the Pediatrics Special Interest Group of the PPTA.

Seminar Objectives

- 1. discuss the pathophysiology and clinical features of specific pediatric conditions.
- 2. understand the physiology of a normal body and a body with developmental conditions.
- 3. integrate understanding of pathophysiology with the design and implementation of treatment plans.
Structure of Activity
- i. Discussion of the Pediatric Condition in terms of clinical picture and medical-rehab concerns .
- ii. Discussion of pathophysiology of the pediatric conditions.
- iii. Group-work: design of treatment plans considering the medical and rehabilitation concerns.
- iv. Integration of the treatment plans with emphasis on its physiologic basis.
