ey guys, where's the love out there?? well, i didn't get much help
out there so i just did my own mini study on adult cp. recent
updates with my Pt after 6 interventions:
the primary focus of my plan was to simply stretch adductors,
strengthen abductors, and stabilization of trunk/pelvis. as a
result, gait has improved using fww and afo. balance, coordination
and gait training will be initiated on the next session. adductor
spasticity was most prominent during swing phase of gait causing the
swing foot to strike the medial side of the stance foot. there was
a 50% decrease with use of a semi-articulating afo (into df).
tinetti score increased by 2 points even without balance or gait
training. Pt reported decreased energy expenditure when walking 50
feet in comparison to not wearing afo. i will probably see this pt
for another 2 weeks and concentrate on caregiver training/education
to continue with stretching and ex program post d/c. in this case,
the subjects condition appears to have progressed and then limited
itself once again for the past year. i can post anything else
interesting upon d/c. oh yeah, i guess i should add that this is
not an official study being conducted. it is just a basic
observation on an individual pt in an uncontrolled environment. if
anyone out there has any more interesting info, puhleeeze dont
hesitate to post it.
