Hello,
have you guys seen this announcement?
As of January 2016, the required entry-level (or first professional) degree for United States (US) graduates of CAPTE-accredited programs will be the Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. CAPTE is the Commission on Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education. Currently, there are fewer than 10 entry-level DPT program outside of the US.
At this time it is not known exactly how the changes in US education accreditation standards will change the requirements for foreign-educated PTs coming to the US. FCCPT evaluates each individual applicant's education to determine if the education is 'substantially equivalent' to that of a PT who has graduated from a CAPTE-accredited program based on number of CREDITS completed and adequate coverage of CONTENT as identified in the Coursework Tool.
It is likely that the number of clinical education hours required will INCREASE and the number of TOTAL credits will increase from the current 150 semester credits. However, the exact number of credits is unknown at this time.
In early 2016, the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT, who develops and owns the CWT), will convene a task force to compare the current CWT (Version 5) to the new CAPTE criteria, and develop a revised version CWT to be put into use in late 2016 or early 2017. The task force will also revise the PTA evaluation tool at the same time. Both tools will be assessed for Validity and Reliability during the development process.
Once the new CWT is in use, each applicant will have a maximum of two (2) years from their initial evaluation date to use the results of an evaluation using CWT5 criteria for immigration purposes. After the 2-year timeframe, applicants will have to meet the criteria on the new CWT in order to be issued a Healthcare Workers (Type 1) Certificate.
I just want to know , if I apply for credential evaluation this early 2016 , I'm still under CWT 5?
Please , enlighten me with this announcement, because some of my friends are telling that its already DPT that they require and it already started January 2016, as the announcement said, but on the last part of the message it said that it take effect late 2016 or early 2017, and if that's the case then I still have a chance to apply and use it until I get to US
PLEASE i NEED YOU OPINION GUYS. THANKS
